The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” against what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans issued by the United States against five European individuals working on fighting online hate and misinformation, an EU official has said.

EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’

European leaders including the French president accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions targeted figures that were at the heart of efforts to enact laws regulating US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce American platforms to punish US perspectives they oppose,” stated a senior US official online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
